IN MEMORIAM

Iowa Ida Newton was born at the Newton homestead near Nichols, Ia., April 29, 1862, and passed away at the home of her brother, Webster Newton, at Columbus Junction Aug. 8, 1919.
Her entire life was spent in this vicinity. She was the youngest daughter of Thomas and Vila Newton, two of the pioneer settlers of Pike township, having come to Iowa in 1850, locating on a farm near Letts, later moving to the present Newton home.
The deceased spent her early life in home duties and administering to her aged parents during their last years. Of late she with one brother, Philander, had continued to live at the old home until last December when she was removed to the home of her brother Webster, where she was cared for during her last sickness.
She was a woman of good Christian character, ever faithful to her duties in life, a good neighbor and will be missed by a large circle of friends. Her last illness was borne with patience being ever hopeful of an early recovery from a painful malady.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister; four brothers with a number of nephews and nieces are left to mourn her loss. The brothers being Philander at home, Webster of Columbus Junction, Thompson of Riverside, and Jeptha of Atkinson, Neb. The heartfelt sympathy is extended to them in their bereavement.
The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church at Nichols this afternoon. Rov. C. Millice officiating, burial in the Watkins cemetery.
