Lucretia Lane, Organist, Dead
Organist at First Baptist Church for 64 Years, Since Her Childhood.

Mrs. Lucretia D. Lane, 418 Pine street, who was organist of the First Baptist church for 64 years and musical director of the church and Sunday school for many years died at Hershey hospital at 1:45 this afternoon after a brief illness. She became critically ill about six days ago and underwent an operation at Hershey hospital but failed to rally.

Mrs. Lane was the last survivor of the Dillaway family, who were among the early settlers in this community. For many years her father, George Dillaway, conducted a crockery store on East Second street, in the building now occupied by the Thompson hardware store.

Organist Since Child

When a child Mrs. Lane began her work as organist of the First Baptist church. At first a hand-pumped organ was used for the services. Later she became musical director of the church and for years led the musical service for the Sunday school as well as the church. When the church work became heavier, Mrs. Lane abandoned the Sunday school work and devoted herself to efforts to the church programs. Several months ago the church installed a new organ and at that time Mrs. Lane resigned her position as organist and choir director when she felt the work was too strenuous. The new organ was dedicated to the services she rendered to the church, a suitable bronze tablet being installed in the choir loft at the time of the dedicatory concert. Her services to the church wre outstanding and she gave tirelessly of her time and talent.

The only survivor is a sister-in-law, Mrs. Louise Dillaway, who made her home with Mrs. Lane. Her husband, L. L. Lane, died more than 20 years ago.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The Fairbanks Home for Funerals is in charge of plans.
