LAWRENCE CARLILE MUSCATINE, Iowa - Lawrence R. Carlile, 79, of Muscatine, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at the Muscatine Care Center. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2004, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Rev. James Trosen of the Faith United Church of Christ will officiate. Honorary casket bearers will be Bob Middagh, Gerald Green and Kenny Hillyer. Casket bearers will be Larry L. Green, Lindal Hillyer, Terry Krolak, Mike Krolak, Scott Hillyer, and Steve Hillyer. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2004, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Parkinson's Foundation. Lawrence Raymond Carlile was born on October 28, 1924, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Walter and Emma Ween Carlile. He married Jeanette Hillyer on March 12, 1943, in Moline, Illinois. Mr. Carlile was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Japan during World War II. Larry grew up in Moline, Illinois, he then lived in Burlington and Nichols. For the last 37 years, he has resided in Muscatine. Larry had been a truck driver for many years, working for Hillyer Trucking in Burlington. He later worked for Morgan Trucking in Muscatine. After his retirement, Larry worked part time for Muscatine Transportation, Inc. (MTI). Mr. Carlile loved camping, fishing and playing Yahtzee with his wife. He had bowled for years and enjoyed watching sports on television, reading westerns, playing cards and going to family reunions. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Carlile of Muscatine; one daughter, Judy Anderson and husband, Dean, of Burlington; three grandchildren, Dena Spooner of Des Moines, Toi Van Ess and husband, John, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Tyler Anderson and wife, of Burlington; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Spooner, Frank and Henry Van Ess. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Mary Emma, in infancy, four brothers, and two sisters.
