JEANETTE CARLILE

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Jeanette Fannie Hillyer Carlile, 85, of Muscatine, died Saturday, May 1, 2010, at her home.

Graveside Service will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Greenwood Cemetery. Jim Jensen will officiate the service.

Jeanette was born on February 1, 1925, in Canaan, Connecticut, the daughter of John A. and Mary J. Howe Hillyer. She married Lawrence R. Carlile on March 12, 1943, in Moline, Illinois. They lived in Moline, Burlington, Nichols, and Muscatine.

She had worked at the Arsenal in Middletown, Louis Rich, H. J. Heinz Co., and The Post.

Jeanette liked playing cards, Scrabble and Yahtzee. She bowled in several leagues. She enjoyed camping and fishing and many summers were spent on the Mississippi River. She loved going to the Hillyer family reunions (everyone loved her fried chicken and the Thanksgiving dinners.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Judy Anderson and husband, Dean, of Burlington; three grandchildren, Dena Spooner of Ankeny, Toi Van Ess and husband, John, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Kip Anderson and wife, Lori, of Burlington; great grandchildren Ashley Spooner of Ankeny, Frank and Henry Van Ess of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Chloe and Carson Anderson of Burlington; two sisters, Grace Krolak and husband, Edward, of Peru, Illinois, and Shirley Hillyer of Nichols; two step-brothers, Jim Jensen and wife, Charlotte, of Muscatine, and Duane “Bud” Jensen and wife, Joyce, of Ladson, South Carolina; two step-sisters, Katie Simpson and husband, Bill, of Des Moines, and Carla Dunnahoo and husband, Ron, of West Liberty; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2004, one daughter in infancy, Mary Emma, one grandson, H. Dean Anderson, sisters, Ethel Green and Genevieve Oostendorp Still, brothers, Almon “Knute” Hillyer and Johnnie Hillyer, her step-mother, Gladys Koch Hillyer, and a step-sister Lucille (Jensen) Bechmann.
