MRS. BESSIE ELAND

Mrs. Bessie, Eland, aged resident at Hotel Muscatine, died there today.
Dr. V. W. Swayze, county medical examiner, said Mrs. Eland collapsed, and died while .preparing to retire Thursday night. Death apparently resulted from a heart ailment. A hotel maid found her about 11 a. m. today.
Mrs. Eland was the wife of Dr. Thomas Eland, a physician at Letts, before his death nearly 30 years ago. She moved from her Letts home to Muscatine.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Fairbanks funeral home.

MRS. BESSIE B. ELAND

Funeral services are pending at Fairbanks home for funerals for Mrs. Bessie B. Eland, 81, former Letts resident who died Thursday night at Hotel Muscatine, where she resided.
Mrs. Eland was the widow of Dr. Thomas L. Eland, Letts physician who died Oct. 27, 1945: She was a native of Nichols, where she was born Nov. 17, 1882, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Baker. She had lived at the Muscatine hotel for two years. Dr. and Mrs. Eland were married June 11, 1906, at Nichols.
A member of the Letts Methodist church, Mrs. Eland was a member of the Letts chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, a charter member of the Philathea class of the church and a charter member of the Letts Study club.
Her husband and two sons are deceased. One son died in infancy and the other, Pvt. Thomas W. Eland, died in Belgium Jan. 1, 1945, while in military service.
Surviving are a brother, Earl Baker, San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Edna McCormick, Los Angeles, Calif, and one grandchild, Miss Judith Eland, Hartford, Conn. Her former daughter-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Eland Nichel, and two children, Rebecca and Dana Nichel, reside at Garden Grove, Calif.

NOTE: Buried in Letts Cemetery.
