Services for Helen Olive Dahlberg Wilson of West Liberty were Saturday at West Liberty United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Wilson died Sunday, September 10, 2000, at her home, following a six-year battle with cancer. She was 77.

A memorial fund was established for Iowa City Hospice and West Liberty United Methodist Church. Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wilson was born March 3, 1923, at New Ulm, Minnesota, a daughter of Robert C. and Olive Potter Dahlberg. She attended public schools in Springfield, Minnesota, and Oskaloosa, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from Iowa State University in Ames in 1944.

She married J. Gaylord Wilson at Columbus, Georgia, on July 18, 1944. Following his military service and completion of studies at ISU, they settled in West Liberty, where they engaged n farming. He died in 1995.

She was a research technician in gastrointestinal research at the University of Iowa Medical Center, where she worked for over 30 years.

She was a member of West Liberty United Methodist Church, where she served as church school teacher, choir member and board member, and was a frequent visitor to newcomers and shut-ins. She was a longtime member of PEO and the North Prairie Social Club.

She enjoyed doing yard work, making baskets, sewing, cooking and preserving objects from earlier years. She was an avid supporter of ISU. In her later years, she volunteered at the University of Iowa Hospital and the West Liberty Public Library.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by four children, Stephen Wilson and his wife, Lynanne, of Charlottesville, Virginia, Donald Wilson and his wife, Julie, of West Liberty; Carol Wilson and her husband, Peter Becker, of New York, New York, and Bruce Wilson and his wife, Vicki Thompson, of Kenilworth, Illlinois; two sisters, Ruth Smith of Ames and Betty Halverson of Duluth, Minnesota; a brother, Robert W. Dahlberg of Des Moines; and seven grandchildren.
