Fred “Bob” Welk, 94, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 1995, at his son’s home in West Liberty.

Mr. Welk was born January 22, 1901, in Nebraska, the son of William and Mary Ritter Welk. He married Mable M. Schuessler on February 27, 1929, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death in 1989. He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church. He engaged in farming and the scrap metal business in West Liberty.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Romona Welk of West Liberty; a granddaughter, Cinda Welk of West Liberty; and a sister, Laura Nicklas of Muscatine He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers, Carl, Edward and Eugene; and a sister, Lucile Welk Freeman.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1996, at the Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Ostrem officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
