Mrs. D. (Della) Blanche Carter, 94, died Friday, December 6, 1996, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty, following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 9, at the First Church United in West Liberty, with Rev. Ralph Farmer officiating. Organist was Marianne Phelps, with Darren Brooke as soloist. Casket bearers were grandsons: Gary Pippert, Thomas Howell, Patrick Carter, Mike Carter, Tony Howell, Steve Dodson, Kevin Dodson, and Tim Howell. Honorary casket bearers were granddaughters: Lorna, Teresa, Debra, and Jeannie. Burial was in the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. The Barker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the West Liberty and Nichols First Responders.

Mrs. Carter was born May 19, 1902, in Illinois, the daughter of Nels and Murney McHenry Christofferson. She married Harold (Had) Carter December 7, 1921, in Muscatine. The couple farmed all their life, most recently in the Conesville area. Upon retirement in 1962, they moved to West Liberty. She was a member of the First Church United in West Liberty and enjoyed gardening, all kinds of needlework, especially tatting, and her grandchildren.
Survivors include a son,Donald Carter of Nichols; three daughters, Murna Howell and Odetta Pippert, both of Muscatine, and Shirley Dodson of Lone Tree; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a brother, Martin Christofferson of Iowa City; and three sisters, Jessie Ulch, Hazel Barnard and Iola Coss, all of Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, four brothers, a sister and a granddaughter, Linda.
