MUSCATINE, Iowa - Dale Robert Burmeister, 75, of Muscatine, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at the Eagle Point Nursing Home in Clinton. Services were today at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Nancy Schultz of the Sweetland United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dan Marine, Jake Marine, Korey Burmeister, Lucas Ketelsen, Jerad Ketelsen, Andy Oberbroeckling and Michael Oberbroeckling. Honorary pallbearers will be Samuel Burmeister, Ralph Fromer, and Raymond Fromer. A memorial has been established for the Crossroads, Inc. and the Sweetland United Methodist Church. Mr. Burmeister was born July 10, 1925, in Cedar County, the son of Alvin and Mayme Holt Burmeister. He married Lois E. Lilienthal on June 5, 1948, in Davenport.
He farmed all of his life and worked at Continental Grain for 18 years. He was a member of Sweetland United Methodist Church, Muscatine County Farm Bureau, and the Muscatine Moose Lodge.
In July, he was inducted into the Muscatine County Cattleman's Hall of Fame. He enjoyed playing cards in his retirement.
Survivors include his four daughters, Lori Burmeister of Mulberry House of Muscatine, Bonnie Ketelsen and her husband, Dean, of Lowell, Ohio, Judy Szydlowski and her husband, Richard, of Plymouth, Minn., and Karen Marine and her husband, Larry, of Wilton; three sons, Bill Burmeister and his wife, Donna, of Lowden, Jerry Burmeister and his wife, Kimberly, of Muscatine, and Keith Burmeister and his wife, Linda, of Cassville, Wis.; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Helen Paustian of Davenport, Verba Claeys of Michigan, Joan Pruess of Clarence, and Betty Risley of Duluth, Ga.; four brothers, Leroy, Virgil and Lyle, all of Davenport and Don of Stockton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois, on July 17, 1992; and two sisters, Marilyn and Joyce.
