J. Carl Barnard, 52, native resident of this city and proprietor of the Barnard Elite laundry, died at midnight at the state hospital in Mt. Pleasant. Death was due to general paresis. He had been ill for two years.
Mr. Barnard was born here June 19, 1870, and resided in this city practically his entire life. He married Miss Minnie Goschee Sept. 10, 1892, to which union one child was born, who survives. His wife died Dec. 3, 1920.
He was engaged in the laundry business since 1905. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church. Fraternally he was affiliated with the Elks and the Modern Woodmen.
Besides a son, J. Harold Barnard of this city, he is survived by three brothers, Ed. Barnard of Muscatine, William Barnard of California and Albert Barnard of East St. Louis, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. o’clock Monday afternoon from the home, 107 East Eighth street. The Rev. J. B. Rendall of the First Presbyterian church will officiate. Burial will be made in Greenwood cemetery.
