FRANK ROLAND RUESS

WEST LIBERTY, IOWA - The many friends in this community were shocked to hear of the wholly unexpected death of Frank R. Ruess, which took place on Monday evening, September 1, 1924 at his home in Iowa City, due to heart trouble.

Mr. Ruess was born to John and Margaret Burger Ruess in the South Prairie community southwest of West Liberty on August 19, 1865. Frank had spent practically all his life in this community. He was married to Sarah Cunniff in 1908 in West Liberty. He and his wife and three daughters moved to Iowa City two years ago in order that the children might attend the University there. He made frequent visits to West Liberty and continued to be counted as one of our citizens.

He is survived by the widow and daughters, Mary, Elizabeth, and Geraldine; four sisters, Miss. Kate Ruess, Mrs. Walter (Anna) Romaine, and Mrs. Louis (Elizabeth) Hoffelder, all of Iowa City, and Miss Frances Ruess of West Liberty; and two brothers, Henry and Will of West Liberty.

Funeral services were held at Iowa City this morning, Thursday, September 4, 1924 and the body laid to rest at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Iowa City.

Printed in the West Liberty Index on Thursday, September 4, 1924, page 8.
