IOWA CITY, Iowa - Gaylord Gene Mills, 71, Iowa City, formerly of Muscatine, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at his home in Iowa City.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8th at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial was at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial fund was established.

Mr. Mills was born June 21, 1939, in Nichols, the son of Milburn "Mike" and Vivian Calvert Mills. He married Debra Craven June 27, 1980, in Muscatine.

He farmed with his dad and was employed with Russelloy Foundry in Durant before working for Musco Lighting in Muscatine from 1967 to 1980.

He worked many years in manufacturing and distributing coon hunting and dog supplies.

He served as the first president of the Muscatine County Sportsman Club and was active in several other coon hunting organizations and clubs.

He is survived by his wife, Debra of Iowa City; their son, Ivan Mills of Iowa City; his children, Johnny Mills and wife, Vicky of Columbus Junction, Gaylord Mills Jr and wife, Debra, of Rock Island, Ill., Richard Mills, of Cedar Rapids, and Joan Parchert and husband, Alan of Illinois City, Ill., of former wife Marilyn; his daughter, Gayla Stepanek and husband, Jon of Muscatine, of former wife Juanita; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

His sisters, Beverly Freyermuth and husband, Paul of Muscatine, Cassandra Allen and husband, Wendell of Yarmouth, and Christine Schlabach and husband, Duane of Parnell; brothers, Darrell Mills and wife, Ann of LaFayette, La., Sid Mills and wife, Pam of Iowa City, and Van Mills and wife, Diane of Henderson, Nev., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and great-granddaughter, Madison.
