Nichols – Funeral services for Wilmer C. “Major” Hallock, life-long resident of the Nichols community, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Methodist church. The Rev. Ed Norman will officiate. Burial will be in the Nichols cemetery with the Snider Funeral home in charge.

Hallock, age 70, died at 2:10 a.m. today [27 May 1954] in Mercy hospital, Iowa City, following a brief illness. He was born Jan. 18, 1884 in Cedar Valley, the son of George and Rachel McKibben Hallock. He married Anna M. Heizer, March 2, 1910 in Nichols. He was a member of the Methodist church and the Modern Woodman lodge. For the past several years he has been employed as a transporter of mail. Previously he had been engaged in farming.

Survivors include the widow and one sister, Ada L. Brown of Nichols. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

The body will be returned to the family home Saturday afternoon.

Hallock Funeral Rites Are Noted

Nichols – Funeral services for W. C. Hallock, lifelong resident of the community who died Thursday, were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Methodist church by the pastor, Rev. Edward Norman.

Mrs. Marilyn Meyers and Mrs. Wilma Mills, accompanied by Mrs. Vera Elder at the organ, sang “Have Thine Own Way” and “In the Dawn of Eternal Day.”

Flower attendants were Mrs. Edna Kirchner, Mrs. Golda Pike, Mrs. Elsie Poole, Mrs. Anna Reynolds and Mrs. Pearl Hines. Casket bearers were Ray McCullough, Lloyd and George McCullough of Muscatine, Donald Heizer of Davenport, Kenneth Bullis of Keokuk and Clinton Donald of West Branch.

Interment was in Nichols cemetery. Out-of-town friends and relatives who attended the service were from Davenport, Muscatine, Rock Island, Mediapolis, Keokuk, Cedar Rapids, Columbus Junction, Olin and Conesville.
