Fred Stortz, 65, succumbs after 10-days illness

Fred Stortz, 65, died at 5:05 a.m. today at the Hershey hospital of complications after an illness of 10 days he resided in Bloomington Township, on rural route number four. The son of John J. and Christina Lake Stortz, he was born April 22, 1876, in Wurtenburg, Germany. He had been a resident of this community for 48 years, coming here at the age of 17. He married Clara M. Riek April 16, 1902, in Muscatine. He attended the Bloomington Friends Church. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Clara Stortz, at home; two daughters, Esther Stortz at home and Mrs. Albert Herlein, Sweetland Township a brother and two sisters in Germany; a sister, Mrs. J. A. Haas of Fruitland, and a niece, Christina Jackle of Fruitland. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother, and two half brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the George M. Wittich funeral home with the Rev. Guilford Street, pastor of the Bloomington Friends Church, officiating. The body is at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
