DIED At the WCTU Coffee Rooms at 1 a.m. March 26, 1888 Donald McDonald, age 58 years, 10 months.
The first of the present month, Mr. McDonald and wife came to Muscatine from their present home near Wyoming Hill and took charge of the Coffee Rooms. Ever since he left the Army he has been far from a well man and had been drawing a pension for total disability.
He was born in Scotland and came to Msucatine in 1851. He lived in the city for seven years and then moved to Wyoming Hill. He marreid Ruth M. Twigg at Wapello on Dec. 1, 1866. Their only child, William, died at home about three years ago. An adotped daughter, Mrs. John Beaham now resides on East Hill.
The deceased was serving his second term as Justice of the Peace of Sweetland Township when he died. He was raised a Presbyterian in Scotland, but for 20 years had been a member of the Methodist Church.
The immediate cause of death was pneumonia, preceded by an accute attack of rheumatism, or lumbago, with very feeble action of the heart.
Mr. McDonald was a faithful and exemplary citizen in every relation to life and his death will be sincerely mourned by all who knew him.
The funeral services were held a the 1st Methodist Church on Wednesdy, March 28, at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. W. G. Wilson assisted by Dr. A. B. Robbins.
