Word of the death of Gwyen Arnold Ziegenhorn, seaman first class USNR, was received by his wife, Ruth Hoag Ziegenhorn, rural route 4, Muscatine, in an official message from the Navy Department Thursday. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ira Ziegenhorn, route 5, Muscatine.

The telegram stated that Ziegenhorn died while in the performance of his duty and in the service of his country. His remains were interred in an Allied cemetery outside the continental limits of the United Sttates. No other details were available.

Ziegenhorn enlisted at Davenport Nov. 27, 1942, and was trained at Camp Endicott, R.I., before going to sea. He was believed to be serving somewhere in the South Pacific.

He was born in Rock Island County, Ill., Jan. 3, 1922. On Aug. 5, 1942, he married Ruth Hoag in Muscatine. He was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal before entering the service.

Surviving are the bride, and son Donald Gwyen; his parents; grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Ziegenhorn; one sister, Phyllis Ziegenhorn of Moline; and seven brothers, Keith, Floyd, victor, Harlan, Maurice, Gary and Vincent, the latter serving in the Navy in the South Pacific.
