DURANT, Iowa - Alma S. Grummer, 90, of Durant, died on Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Muscatine Care Center.

Services will be at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. The Rev. Randy Lett and Wayne Fredericksen will officiate. Organist will be Kathy Luethye and vocalist Henry Bentley. Pallbearers will be Ron Hansen, Ron Shelangoski, Richard Finck, Dick Bullard, Jonathan Lett, and Jacob Lett. Honorary pallbearers will be Arlyn Koeppe, James Lett, and Tim Davies. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Durant Ambulance or the Durant Library.

Mrs. Grummer was born on Nov. 24, 1910, in Stockton, the daughter of Otto and Alma Ladehoff Koeppe. She married Fritz H. Grummer on Dec. 5, 1931, in Davenport. Fritz preceded her in death on April 16, 1964.

Together they farmed south of Durant until they moved to town in 1957.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wilton, a 50-year member of the Pythian Sisters No. 192 Walcott, Past President of the Durant Women's Club, Past President and Charter member of the Durant Senior Citizens, Past President of the Wilton Progressive Club, and was a former member of the Birthday Club. She was a 4-H leader with the Wilton Busy Bees for 10 years and a member of the Muscatine County Farm Bureau. She was involved in community improvements from 1974-1994 in Durant caring for the flowers at the Durant City Garage.

She loved to work in her yard, she collected seashells, and she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crafts, and playing cards. Above all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Joylene ''Joy'' Sherwood and her husband, Robert B., of Wilton; a grandson, Rev. Randy Lett and his wife, Peggy; three granddaughters, Monica Lett, Marika Lett, Malisa Davies and her husband, Tim; four step-grandchildren, Cindy Gillespie and her husband, Mike, Sherry Dillon, Carla Lowicki and her husband, Ron, and Tom Dillon and his wife, Pam; six great-grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; and 12 step great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Fritz Grummer; two sisters, Wilma Petersen and Ida Koeppe; two brothers, Henry Koeppe and Arnold Koeppe.
