DAVENPORT, Iowa - Melvin Floerchinger, 88, of Davenport, died Friday, July 7, 2000, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Davenport.

Graveside services will be at the Durant Cemetery. The Rev. David Lawson will officiate.

Visitation will be at Bentley Funeral Homes in Durant.

He was born April 17, 1912, in Victor, the son of Frank and Lena Slager Floerchinger. He married Edna Schlichting on Oct. 13, 1936 in Aledo, Ill.

He was employed by Brinks Armored Car in Davenport for 30 years, retiring in 1978.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport and was a former member of the Davenport Elks Lodge No. 298, Muscatine Moose Lodge No. 288, and Wahkonsa Country Club in Wilton. He enjoyed playing golf.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Floerchinger of Davenport; two sons, Gary Floerchinger of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. and Kenneth Floerchinger of Prundale, Calif.; a grandson, David; a granddaughter, Julie; two brothers, Frank Floerchinger of West Branch and Orville Stephenson of Traer; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Rosetta Williams, Lola Close, Inez McWilliams, and Bethel Mackert.
