MOSCOW, Iowa -- Melvin R. Crane, 65, of Moscow, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at his home in Moscow.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial gathering from at Melvins home, Moscow. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton. Memorials may go to the Iowa City Hospice and the American Cancer Society.

He was born on June 26, 1935, in Iowa City, the son of Arthur and Vivian Nagle Crane. He was raised by his grandparents, William and Blanche Nagle. He married Blanche M. Dimick on Aug. 20, 1954, in Buffalo.

He was employed by Red Jacket Pump in Davenport as a machinist for 33 years, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and was an avid outdoorsman, but above all he loved his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche Crane of Moscow; a daughter, Donna Bryant of Davenport; two sons, Robert Crane and his wife, Tammy, of Aurora, Ill. and Terry Crane and his wife, Jolene, of Moscow; a sister, Mary, Lueth and her husband, Michael, of Davenport; four brothers, David Crane of Indiana, Don Crane, Gary Crane and Larry Crane, all of Davenport; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents, his grandparents and four brothers, Jimmy, Orlo, Kenneth and William Crane.
