RIVERSIDE, Iowa
Helena O'Conner, 74, Riverside died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at her home.

Services are at St. Marys Catholic Church, Riverside. The Rev. Rich Adam will officiate. Pallbearers are Jim McNamara, Joe McNamara, Don McNamara, Mike Duwa, Tom Duwa, Jim Laures, Bill Laures, Carey O'Connor and Matt Hernandez. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Riverside. After services at the cemetery a luncheon will be held at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Riverside First Responders or Washington County Hospice.

She was born on June 19, 1928, in Holbrook, the daughter of James and Mary Reynolds Cooney. She married Leroy O'Conner on Aug. 10, 1949, at St. Marys Catholic Church, Riverside.

Helena graduated from St. Marys Catholic School, Riverside, in 1947 and then attended Teachers College in Mount St. Clare, Clinton.

She taught at Old Kentucky School in rural Riverside.

She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, the S & C card club and the Washington County Health Advisory Board. She enjoyed gardening, photography, cooking, bird watching, playing cards and dancing, but most of all, she loved to spend time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Patrick O'Conner and his wife, Chery, of Independence, Michael O'Conner of Cedar Falls, John O'Conner and his wife, Stephanie, of Riverside and Timothy O'Conner and his significant other, Laura Wroblewski, of Coralville; two daughters, Susan O'Conner-Von and her husband, Ron, of St. Paul, Minn. and Sara O'Conner of Riverside; seven grandchildren, Candice, Kristin and Ashley, all of Independence, Addison, Evan and Clint, all of Riverside and Caitlyn of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edward and Mervin; and three sisters, Madeline, Katherine and Theresa.
