WILTON, Iowa - Clement J. ''Jake'' Davies, 86, of Wilton, died on Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be at the United Methodist church in Wilton. The Rev. Michael Biklen will officiate with musical selections by organist Kathy Luethye. Internment will be at the Oakdale Cemetery in Wilton.

Visitation will be at Bentley Funeral Homes in Wilton. Services will include grave side Masonic service conducted by Paul Drumm and the Wilton Masonic Lodge No. 167 AF & AM. Memorials may go to the United Methodist Church of Wilton.

He was born on Oct. 14, 1913, the son of Walter and Elizabeth (Thomas) Davies in Cotter. He married Louise Redman on July 27, 1936, in Rockford, Ill. She died Dec. 22, 1975.

He owned an operated Jake's Supermarket in Wilton for 53 years. He retired in 1997.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wilton, Wilton Masonic Lodge No. 167 AF and AM, Davenport Consistory and Kaaba Shrine. He was a founding member of the Wilton Chamber of Commerce and the Wilton Industrial Development. He was a member of the Quiet Birdmen, Molin Hanger, the Airplane Owners and Pilots Association, the Iowa Grocers Association and the Muscatine Elks Lodge. He was a former board member of the Oakdale Cemetery Association and a former member of the Wilton Fire Department and Wilton Lions Club.
He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved to fly, listen to gospel music and, above all, he loved Wilton.

Serving as casket bearers will be Don Smithey, Bob Grunder, Dean Rock, Gary Wilharber, Jeff Thoma and Russ Hunzelman. Serving as honorary casket bearers will be Gerry Stein, Jake Duffe, G.A. Whetstine and James Blackwood.

He is survived by two sons, Jerry Davies and his wife, Nancy, of Wilton and Dave Davies and his friend, Bonnie Daufeldt, of Wilton; one daughter Judy Herr, and her husband, Robert, of Iowa City; one brother Howard Davis of Columbus City; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a special friend, Mary Ford of Wilton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant brother and an infant sister.
