MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Charles William 'Bill' Babcock, 70, Muscatine, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at Riverbend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Services are at Nichols Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Crematory, 114 W. Fourth St., Muscatine. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Babcock was born on Aug. 9, 1933, in Atalissa, the son of Charley Raymond and Juda Gertrude Miller Babcock. He married Evelyn Marie Adkison on Aug. 16, 1953, on the family farm in Wilton. She preceded him in death in 1988.

He worked as a rate clerk for various freight companies in the area prior to his retirement.

He was a big Cubs fan and enjoyed gambling on the riverboats.

Survivors include three sons, Steve and Jim Babcock, both of Muscatine, and Doug Babcock of Liberty, Mo.; three grandchildren, Alec, Andrew and Brandi; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Niles and husband Gail of Wilton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Donald.
