MUSCATINE - Herman Sherwood Hipshur, 83, of Muscatine, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at Unity Hospital. Services will be at the Nichols Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Lutheran Homes. Mr. Hipshur was born Jan. 22, 1916, in Avoca, the son of Alonzo and Anna Hein Hipshur. He married Margaret I. Bryan on Nov. 22, 1958, at Joliet, Ill. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He retired from the Catapillar Works at Joliet, Ill., in 1981. Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of Muscatine; two sons, Herman Jr. and Wallace Hipshur, both of Muscatine; two daughters, Georgeann Hale of Muscatine and Diane Paterson of Fort Dodge; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha McNelly of Shelbyville, Ind. and Elizabeth Bixler of Clarence, and a brother-in-law, Wilbur Debner of Clarence. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul and Albert Hipshur; and a sister, Viola Debner.
