MUSCATINE - Robert F. Diercks, 71, of Muscatine, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Unity Hospitals. Services will be at the Grace Lutheran Church, 2107 Cedar St. The Rev. Leif Pohl will officiate. Pallbearers will be Harold "Dixie" Howell, Roger Howell, Don Schmidt, Paul Martin, Telford Dindinger and Paul Satterthwaite. Honorary bearers will be Lavone Staley, Weldon Hidlebaugh, Gail Kauffman, Louis Eisner, Don Kelly, John McAreavy, Jack Roelle and Harry Hindahl. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Memorial Garden. Mr. Diercks was born on Sept. 4, 1928, in Muscatine, the son of Frank and Beatrice Boldt Diercks. He had resided in Muscatine all of his life. He married Roberta England on July 25, 1948, at the Grace Lutheran Church, Muscatine. He was a retired carpenter. He was a lifetime member of the Grace Lutheran Church and had served on many committees. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, and a past member of the Muscatine Quarterback Club and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Mr. Diercks was an avid sports fan and loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Cubs. His family was very important to him, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Roberta Diercks of Muscatine; two daughters, Sandra Beason and her husband, John, of Cedar Falls, and Peggy Paulsen and her husband, Milo, of rural Stockton; one son, David Diercks and his wife, Monica, of Dubuque; four granddaughters, Rebecca Diercks, Melissa Paulsen, Emily and Brooke Stadel; four grandsons, Christopher and Scott Beason, Matthew Diercks and Bryan Paulsen; and a sister, JoAnn Longhurst and her husband, Leonard, of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents.
