IOWA CITY - Lysle G. Calvert, 81, of Iowa City, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness. Services will be at Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. The Rev. Stan Toussaint will officiate. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Solon. Visitation will be at the Barker Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Iowa City Hospice. Mr. Calvert was born April 28, 1918, in rural West Liberty, the son of Vincent and Hattie McGowan Calvert. He married Amelia Terrill Nov. 7, 1969. He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1938. He was a civilian worker at the Rock Island Arsenal during World War II and was a salesman for several years. He worked in the maintenance department at the University Hospital in Iowa City until his retirement in 1983. Survivors include his wife, Amelia of Iowa City; three stepdaughters, Bonnie Terrill and Donna Wilson, both of Iowa City and Shelby Grecian and her husband, Gary, of Riverside; four brothers, Cecil Calvert and his wife, Maxine, Don Calvert and his wife, Shirley, both of Muscatine, Kenneth Calvert of Davenport, Virgil Calvert and his wife, Betty, of Quincy, Ill.; four sisters, Vivian Wonderlick and her husband, Lloyd, of Riverside, Dorothy Frans and her husband, Kenneth, of Eliza, Ill., Ruth Fitchner and her husband, Paul, of Eliza, Ill., and Maxine Toussaint and her husband, Stan, of Taylor Texas; nine step grandchildren and ten step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
