MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Janet H. Panko, 44, of Las Cruces, N. M., formerly of Muscatine, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

All friends and family are invited to a memorial service at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Rev. Leif Pohl will officiate.

There will be no visitation and the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Patient Library Fund.

Mrs. Panko was born on Nov. 12, 1956, in Muscatine, the daughter of Cecil and Darlene Becker Houseman. She married William J. Panko on June 4, 1987, in Muscatine.

She was a former member of the Spangler Chapel United Methodist Church.

She graduated from Muscatine High School, the University of Iowa, and Leadership Muscatine. She served on the Board of the Muscatine American Red Cross.

She worked at the Jerome Conway Law Office as a paralegal office manager before moving to New Mexico where she also was a paralegal officer manger at a law office.

Survivors include her husband, William Panko of Las Cruces; her parents, Cecil and Darlene Houseman of Muscatine; two brothers, Charles Houseman of Conesville, and Ronald Houseman and his wife, Pam, of Muscatine; three nephews, Benjamin, Jesse, Jeremy Houseman; one niece, Alexandra Houseman and one great-nephew, Chaz Houseman.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
