GERTRUDE LIPPELGOES

MUSCATINE, Iowa - Gertrude Lippelgoes, 90, of Muscatine, died Saturday, November 22, 2008, at Lutheran Homes.

Funeral Service will be November 26, 2008, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Gary MacManus of Grace Lutheran Church will officiate. Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Rodney Lippelgoes, Randy Lippelgoes, Theron Nealson, and Jay Nealson. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Amenity Hospice or Grace Lutheran Church.

Gertrude was born on July 22, 1918, in Muscatine, the daughter of Herman and Abbie Essex Bridge. She married Ralph Lippelgoes on September 6, 1939, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death in 2000.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and former member of the Ladies of the Moose.

She owned and operated Lippelgoes Nursing Home for 35 years until 1963.

For many years, she raised canaries. Many people in Muscatine and surrounding areas purchased canaries from her. She was known for her cake decorating, making cakes and mints for many occasions. She also loved gardening, having a huge vegetable garden and a beautiful flower garden.

Survivors include one son, LaVern Lippelgoes and wife, Virginia, of Muscatine; one daughter Judie Nealson and husband, Dave, of Lone Tree; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one sister, Donna Griffith of Cape Coral, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Adel Thirtyacre.
