THELMA SWAYZE

Thelma Margaret Swayze, 73, 1117 Orange Street, died Saturday.

Services are Wednesday at 2 pm at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Pastor John Mathews officiating. Organist will be Betty Lincoln and vocalist will be Jane Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph J. Wittich Funeral Home where visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 8 pm.

Mrs. Swayze was born July 3, 1914, in Loretto, Neb., a daughter of Henry and Margaret Stretter Tiede. She graduated from Albion High School in 1931 and taught in Nebraska rural schools for two years before attending Union College in Lincoln. She married V. Warren Swayze on June 14, 1937 in Phoenix. She taught seven years in public schools and nine years in Seventh-day Adventist church schools in Arizona, Colorado and California. During this time she helped her husband through medical school at Loma Linda.

Dr. and Mrs. Swayze moved to Muscatine in June of 1949. She was a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, had served as a member of the church and school boards and had been in charge of a children's division for the past 38 years. She had been the director of the Adventist Community Services Center for the past 26 years.

Survivng are her husband; two children, Myrna Lee (Mrs. Wayne Schlenker) of Loma Linda; and Victor W. II of Iowa City; and one brother, Frederick Tiede of Petersburg, Neb.

She was prededed in death by one brother.
