PHILLIPS FUNERAL RITES CONDUCTED AT SAN FRANCISCO

Funeral rites and burial for Lyle Benton Phillips, 52, former resident of Muscatine, whose death occurred recently in a marine hospital at San Francisco were held there at 1 pm Saturday, The Geo. M. Wittich Funeral home was informed. Burial was in the Olivet Memorial Park cemetery in San Francisco.

A coroner's inquest held last Thursday determined death was due to injuries suffered in an accident on July 7 when he fell 45 feet from the smokestack of a merchant marine vessel. The accident happened shortly after his return from a voyage to the Hawaiian islands.

A native of West Liberty, he worked as a button cutter here for many years. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Harry Richardson of Letts, route 1 and Mrs. William Downs of Muscatine, route 5. His wife, the former Florence Munday, died in 1940.
