JOHN A. LEWIS OF NICHOLS DIES: WAS NATIVE OF INDIANA

Nichols, Ia., March 16 - John A. Lewis died at his home in Nichols Sunday at 2:45 pm. He was born in Indiana June 7, 1842, and enlisted in Company A, Seventh Iowa, March 29, 1864, serving to the end of the Civil War.

On August 1, 1870, he was married to Mary Jane Essex, who survives with the following children; Mrs. Lizzie Gaotelpschen, Des Moines; J. W. Lewis, Muscatine; Robert Lewis and Mrs. August Dedrick, Nichols, and John Lewis, at home. One brother, Nick Lewis, lives in Illinois City, Ill. and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.

Funeral services will be at the M.E. church Tuesday at 2 pm in charge of the Rev W. G. Barr.
