Nichols – Funeral services are scheduled for Robert James Harbit, 35, Nichols farmer who was killed by lighting at his farm near here Friday morning.
The Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. (cst) Sunday at McGovern Funeral Home, Iowa City. High Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. (cst) Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Nichols, with Rev. Fr. L. J. Vogel officiating. Burial will be at the Nichols cemetery.
Born May 31, 1925, near West Branch, he was the son of William Proctor and Alice Hughes Harbit. A former Springdale resident, he lived in the Nichols community the past 18 years.
He married Betty Jean Poole at Nichols on Sept. 2, 1944. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church here and was a 4-H leader of the Pike Plucky Pikers club. He had been a grade A dairyman for nine years.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Lone Lee, 15, and Zachary James, 4: two daughters, Carla Jean, 10, and Lori Lorraine, 2, all at home: two brothers, John of Marion and Daniel of West Branch: and five sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Feldman, West Liberty; Mrs. Pearl Cole, Iowa City; Mrs. Anna Lukausky, Washington: Mrs. Maud Waters, West Branch; and Mrs. Alice Schneider, Tiffin.
