Muscatine County man will get pardon

DES MOINES - Assistant U.S. Attorney Cloid Level said Thursday the name mixup case of Claire Edwin Street had been dismissed and that the 23-year-old conscientious objector from Muscatine Iowa would get his pardon.

If the case had not been cleared up, Street would have had to begin serving a prison sentence Thursday.

When President Truman allowed Christmas pardons for selective service law violators, the list contained the name of the "Edwin Street Claire."

Lowell said the Federal Register name referred to the Muscatine man, but his pardon had to be held up until the register was corrected.
