Alexander Coyner was born on 27 Jul 1846, in Pleasant Run, Lawrence, IN to Martin Luther (1818-1891) and Ingray Jane Hollenbeck Coyner.

He came to Muscatine county with his parents by the 1870 federal census and is listed in Pike township.

He married Emma Jane Elder (1850 - 1923) on 30 Mar 1871 in Nichols, Muscatine, IA.
