09/10/2003RED OAK - The funeral for Richard B. "Toppers" Magers, 67, of Emerson will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak with the Rev. Jerome Wagoner officiating.
Mr. Magers died Sept. 8 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 22, 1935, in rural Henderson to LeRoy and Lois (Fritcher) Magers. He was raised near Henderson and graduated from Henderson High School in 1954. He started farming after high school and was in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1953-1961. He was married to Judith Ann Coppock on July 18, 1959, in Council Bluffs. After their marriage, Richard and Judy farmed until 1980 at which time they moved into Henderson. In 1984 they moved to Emerson. Richard worked for ROMECH, retiring in 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Scott Magers, on Dec. 22, 2002.
Survivors in addition to his wife include daughter, Libby Grummert, and husband, Vertis, of Friendswood, Texas; two sons, Drew Magers and wife, Angie, of Emerson and Chad Magers of Henderson; four grandchildren, Sara Grummert and Zachary Grummert of Friendswood, Texas, Jud Magers of Emerson, and Ethan Wright of Grant, Ala.; two brothers, Bob Magers and wife, Jan, and Bill Magers, all of Council Bluffs; sister, Deloma Allensworth, and husband, Dick, of Emerson; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Farm Creek Cemetery at Henderson.
Memorials may be offered to Montgomery County memorial Hospital Foundation.
