OLD SOLDIER PASSES AWAY

After a lingering illness L.B.Canfield died at his home in this city last Friday afternoon at about one o’clock of paralysis. The funeral was held from the home Sunday afternoon at two o’clock and the remains were interred in the Villisca cemetery, Dr. C.J. English officiating.

Deceased was born in Trumbull county, Ohio, June 10, 1827, and moved to Hancock county, Illinois, in 1847. He was married to Elizabeth Gaffin on Febuary 12, 1865, and to them five children were born - Mrs. Clara Russell of Villisca, Mrs. Jennie Howe of Green Mountain, L.B. Canfield Jr., of Murray, M.G. of Grundy Center, G.M. of Shannon City. He served as a soldier in the Civil war in the 146th Illinois Infantry, and moved to Villisca in 1885, since which time he made his home here.

Mr. Canfield was a pleasant old gentleman, everybody’s friend, a true father and husband, and his many friends join with the wife and children in mourning his departure.
