OBITUARY W.H. ANDREW
William Henry Andrew was born near Wilmington, Clinton county, Ohio in 1843, and was in the seventy-first year of his life at the time of his death. He was one of ten children of whom three brothers and two sisters survive. He grew to manhood in the Ohio home, and in August, 1862, enlisted in the Union army for duty in the Civil War, in the 79th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, where he served until the close of the war. In October, 1867, he was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Hadley. After living four years in Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew came to Page county, Iowa, and in this vicinity they have made their home for the greater part of their life since 1871.
To this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters. The daughters both died in early girlhood, but he is survived by his wife and two sons, Walter and Edgar, both of Elliott. Three brothers who survive him are: J.T. of Guss, Jacob of Charlton, and Wilson of Clarinda. The sisters are: Mrs. J.B. Coate of Atlantic, and Mrs. A.H. Anson of St. Joseph, Missouri.
Mr. Andrew was converted in early life and throughout life held his membership in the Friends church of Wilmington, Ohio, in which Mrs. Andrew also has a birthright membership. He maintained to the end a simple, but strong and beautiful faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and the Christian life.
The funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at two o’clock at the Methodist church in this city, conducted by Rev. W.J. Ewing, pastor of the Presbyterian church, and assisted by Rev. E.S. Menocher, pastor of the M.E. church. Special music was given by Mrs. E.C. Hough and a quartet consisting of Messrs J.S. Honeyman, J.H. Todd, H.H. Nordyke and J.A. Freeman.
Those who were present from a distance were: J.H. Andrew and daughters Emma and Mrs. Eva Larimer of Chariton, Iowa; W.B. Andrew of Alburnett, Iowa; Arthur Andrew, R.D. Burnett and P.C. Andrew of St. Joseph, Missouri; Mrs. Berne Orme of Pacific Junction; Mr. and Mrs. William H. Andrew and Dave Crouse and daughter of Clarinda, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. W.F.
