Funeral services for Jay Elwood Tye, 73, Red Oak were Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold with Don Gordon officiating. Burial was in the Whipple Cemetery. Memorial are suggested to the Heartland Hospice, 2301 Eastern Ave., Red Oak, IA. 51566. Mr. Tye died Saturday ( Dec. 25, 1999) at his home in Red Oak following a short illness.

He was born Aug. 20, 1926, in Pottawattamie County to Vernon Ellis and Myrtle Marguerite ( Doty ) Tye. He attended schools at Griswold and in 1942, joined the Navy and served until his discharge during World War II. He married Bonnie Marie Abramson at Griswold March 13, 1948. They lived in Elliott until 1971, when they moved to Denver, CO, area . During his lifetime, he was a heavy equipment operator. He retired in 1993 and moved to Red Oak. He was a member of the Westland Baptist Church in Lakewood, CO. and Eagles Lodge #2715 in Red Oak.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bonnie Tye, Sept. 21, 1990, a son, Patrick Tye , Nove. 9, 1966, a grandson, Jason, Aug. 14, 1983, a son-in-law, Fred J. Smith, March 4, 1996, and three brothers, Marlow, Elgie, and one in infancy.

Survivors include a son, James E. Tye of Houston, TX., three daughters, Linda M. Tye of Denver, CO., Teresa E. Tye of Houston, TX, and Janice K. Bruce of Red Oak, nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and three brothers, Gyle, John, and Jack, all of Griswold, three sisters, LaVerne DeWitt of Council Bluffs, Gloria Arnold of St, Charles, IL. and Suzanne Harter of Greenfield, numerous other family and friends.
