MRS. J. M. PENRY PASSED AWAY SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Mrs. Priscilla Penry, 68, a resident of Montgomery County for 53 years, died Sunday afternoon, September 4, at 4 o’clock at her home southeast of Elliott, following two month’s illness with gall bladder trouble. Mrs. Penry was taken to a hospital in Council Bluffs for treatment a few weeks ago, but was returned home about a week before her death.

Priscilla Roberts was born at Wheeling, West Virginia, September 26, 1863, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Roberts. She came west with her parents in the early pioneer days and located in this county. On April 18, 1882, she was married to James M. Penry in Red Oak. Before coming to this county she lived for a time at Trenton, Missouri.

Mrs. Penry was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Penry died October 17, 1926. Mrs. Penry was the mother of eleven children, two daughters, Mildred and Ethel preceding her in death.

The surviving children are: Mrs. Emma Hall, Glen Urin, Sask., Canada; Elmer Penry, Carbon, Iowa; Emery Penry and Mrs. Mabel Carroll of Elliott, Iowa; Mrs. Hattie England, Red Oak, Iowa; Bert and Ray Penry, of Stennett and Russell Penry, at home. One sister and one brother, Mrs. Lula Johnson and Moses Roberts, living at St. Joseph, Missouri also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Sellergren Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. E. L. Jeambey of the Presbyterian Church. Burial was made in the Frankfort Cemetery.
