William Boyd Chalmers, 93, Villisca, died Monday, March 16, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Society in Villisca.

William was born April 21, 1921 in Grant , the son of Dr. David J. and Francis M. ( Bliss ) Chalmers.

William grew up in the Grant area and graduated from Grant High School in 1938. Following high school he served his country in the United States Army during World War II, where he was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Stars.

After his discharge from the Army, he returned to the Grant area where he farmed his entire life. He married Mary E. Lenz on Feb. 22, 1947 in Grant. They had one son, Philip. William was a proud member of the Ruppert Knee American Legion Post #445 of Grant. He loved working his farm and raising livestock. His true love was his family.

Will was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, a brother, David Chalmers, three nephews, Glenn Parker, Jim Parker and Floyd Stonehocker, brother-in-law, Gene Parker, Junior Lenz, Edward Lenz, Dean Stafford, and Wally Waldon.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary Chalmers of Villisca, his son, Philip Chalmers and his wife, Dawn, Grant, grandchildren,Brian Champlin and his wife, Laura, Atlantic, Corey Champlin and his wife, Tammy, Waukee, great grandchildren, Nate and Tyler Mikkelsen, Kylee, MaKenna, and Jayce Champlin, three sisters, Anna Marie Parker, Griswold, Mary Waldon, Bremmerton, Wash., Alice Stafford, Ft.Smith, Ark., along with many other relatives and friends.

Graveside memorial services were Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Grant Cemetery with Rev. Gordon Scott officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Grant Fire department or the Villisca Good Samaritan Society. The Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak is in charge of arangements.
