Mrs. John Lowman Had Lived Near Elliott Since 1869—Was 78 Years Old.

Funeral Services were held Sunday, Feb. 17, for Mrs. John Lowman at the Lowman church at 10:30 a.m., Rev. C.A. Thompson of Glenwood, preaching the funeral sermon with Rev. Frank Sutton assisting. A quartet composed of Mrs. Imogene Pogue, Mrs. Blanch Carroll and Messrs. O.J. Powell and Dr. Logan sung, with Dewey Barnes at the piano. Mrs. Lowman’s maiden name was Lucinda McCullen, and she was born at Lynchford, Virginia, January 27, 1843, and died July 14, 1921, aged 78 years, 5 months and 18 days. She was married to John H. Lowman January 17, 1861, and they came to Iowa in 1869, and settled on what is now their home place, having resided there ever since. To the union were born 11 children, Mrs. Mae Harris, Emory, Frank, and Mrs. Minnie Brown of Griswold, Guy S. Lowman of Madison, Wis., Mrs. Stella Lawrence and Mrs. Ethel Moore of Griswold and Mrs. Bessie Luppold of Denver, Colo. Three children died, Myrna, dying at the age of four years, Jennie at the age of 18, and John in infancy. Mrs. Lowman was a Christian since early girlhood, and was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. When the Lowman’s came to the country there was no town where Atlantic now stands and Lewis was the county seat and Council Bluffs was the nearest trading point of any importance, being called Kanesville at that time. The Lowman home is in the southeast quarter of section 34 in Pleasant Township. Mrs. Lowman was laid to rest in the Lowman cemetery on the old home place, where some of the family are buried.
