Wm. Carter O'Brien was born at Hudson, Summit Co., Ohio, April 7th, 1829, died April 5th, 1891. Deceased came to Iowa in the spring of 53 and settled on the farm where he has since resided. In the spring of '54 he was married to Miss Mary Larkins, of Stockton, Chautauqua Xo., N.Y. She died February, 1880, leaving one daughter, Laura, now Mrs. T. E. Jackson. February 15th Mr. O'Brien was stricken with paralysis, from which he never recovered. His daughter and her husband were his constant attendants during his sickness and in his death sustain a great loss. He was a kind neighbor, a loving father, and crowning all other virtues was his Christian character. The God whom he served and trusted was his comforter in sickness and his support in death. Among the last words he said were these: "I am trusting in Jesus." Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 8th, by Rev. Newville, and he was followed to his last resting place by a large concourse of friends and relatives.
"After life's fitful fever he sleeps well."
