HER SUFFERING ENDED
---------------
Mrs. Charles A. Jones, Sick for Nearly Two Weeks With Lock-Jaw,
Passed Away Thanksgiving Day.
---------------
Mrs. Charles A. Jones, mention of whose serious illness with lock-jaw was made in last week’s Sun, passed away at her home, 203 Oak-st., November 27 on Thanksgiving Day. On November 2, a son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jones, and Mrs. Jones had been up but a few days when symptoms of lock-jaw appeared. Two weeks or more before that time, Mrs. Jones got a splinter in a hand, but the wound had apparently healed, and this may have been the cause of the infection, although not certainly known. As soon as it was apparent that she was suffering from the dread disease, modern treatment for combating it was administered, the crisis being passed safely and the patient apparently gaining strength daily and seeming to be on the road to recovery. In spite of the intense suffering which is characteristic of the disease, she more than held her own and that disease had been conquered before her death. Cerebral apoplexy was the cause of death.

She was conscious until the last and only a few minutes before her passing felt better than she had since the beginning of her illness.

Funeral services were held at the home at 2:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon, November 30, there being a large attendance of friends. Rev. E. W. McDade, of Atlantic, who performed the ceremony at the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Jones eight years ago, was here to preach the funeral sermon, Rev. F. N. Willis, D. D., of the M. E. church, also taking part in the service. The pallbearers were Geo. Milhollin, Clarence Wilson, W. T. Davis, John Trybom, Lyman Buddington and A. G. Cline. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery Monday, it having been postponed to await the arrival of a relative who could not get here in time for the funeral.

Those who came from a distance were Mrs. C. G. Fisher, Mrs. L. C. Carder, Miss Verna Fisher and Frank Roberts, from Hamburg; F. G. Jones and Miss Clara Fields, from Burlington; Mrs. A. Christiansen, from Council Bluffs.

Mrs. Jones, whose maiden name was Gertrude Mayme Roberts, was born in Lineville, Iowa, April 21, 1886, and moved to Red Oak with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Roberts, in 1900. She was married here to Mr. Jones Nov. 22, 1905, and they have lived here ever since. She was the mother of two sons, Charles Robert and Ned Eugene, and filled the place of mother to little Guy Peterson, who made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Jones since babyhood. Surviving relatives are the children just mentioned, the husband and parents, and three sisters as follows: Mrs. E. C. Hessler, of Houston, Texas, Miss Leta Eymers and Miss Merle Roberts, of Red Oak.

Deceased was a member of the Woodman circle, a young woman who leaves many friends in Red Oak, who extend to the sorrowing family the sincerest sympathy.

THE SUN, Red Oak, Iowa, Friday, December 5, 1913.
