Ethel L. Jurshak, 86, of Griswold, IA, former Elliott resident, died Friday morning, December 17, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA.

Ethel Leola Selders was born at Griswold on June 2, 1918, the daughter of Walter Alden and Alta Lucinda (Auxier) Selders. She attended rural school at Waveland Center School and graduated from Griswold High School in 1935 as salutatorian of her class. She attended California School of Beauty in Omaha and worked as a beautician in South Omaha and in Griswold. On April 20, 1939, she married Walter Brown Jurshak at Savannah, MO. They farmed in the Pilot Grove area and following Walt's death on February 5, 1983, Ethel moved to Elliott. Most recently, she had been a resident of the Griswold Assisted Living.

Ethel was a member of the Pilot Grove United Methodist Church where she was active in the Women's Society and taught Sunday school. She was a 4-H Leader, judged Montgomery County Fair open class for several years, was a pole worker at elections, worked at the Red Cross Bloodmobile, a member of the Elliott Library Board, and served on the Montgomery County Homemaker Extension Service.
 
Survivors include her son Steve Jurshak and his wife Deb of Murray, IA, her granddaughters Elizabeth and Mona Jurshak both attending CMSU at Warrensburg, MO, and her half sister Barbara Cooney of Corning, IA.

Preceding Ethel in death were her parents, her husband, three sisters Leta Ruben, Blanche Ryan and Ruby Blackburn, one infant brother, four half brothers, Cleo, Dale, Wayne and Reldon Selders and one half sister, Thelma Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Burial will be in the Pilot Grove Cemetery. Open visitation will be held at the Duhn Funeral Home and the family will be present from 2:00 to 4:00 Pm Sunday afternoon.
