ALPHEUS BYAM WAS IN 83RD YEAR

After Illness of Five Months, Departed This Life Tuesday Morning January 30.
 
Alpheus Byam, ill for the past five months with cancer, departed this life at 11:45 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 30. He was in his 83rd year, in fact lacked but a month of attaining that age. He death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. E. Gochenour, 1005 Corning st.

Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 31, Rev. F. N. Willie, D. D., of the M. E. church, preaching the funeral sermon. The singing was by a quartet composed of Mrs. Clarence Stephenson, Mrs. F. J. Brodby, Chas. Briggs and Fred Potter. The friends who served as pallbearers were Geo. C. Boilean, H. W. Clovis, M. M. Logan, R. H. Malony, A. M. Hawkins, and D. A. Replogle. Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery by the side of Mrs. Byam, who died 13 years ago.

Mr. Byam was a native of New York. He was born in that state Feb. 27, 1829, and grew to man-hood there. He was married Jan. 4, 1875, at Delta, N. Y., to Miss Mary M. Joalin. After leaving New York, Mr. and Mrs. Byam located at Dysart, this state, and resided there until 18 years ago, when they came to Red Oak to reside. Mr. Byam had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. J. E. Gochenour, for a number of years.

Aside from Mrs. Gochenour, Mr. Byam is survived by one son, Merritt Byam, of Dysart, but the latter was unable to be here for the funeral. One brother, Merritt Byam, of Rome, N. E., also survives.

Mr. Byam was recently converted to the Christian faith and baptized. He was a farmer by occupation in earlier life, and was a good man, honest, and upright, and his many sterling qualities made for him fast friends. His passing has filled their hearts with gloom. They extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
