Jackson, Edith Elizabeth Butman -
Edith Elizabeth Jackson, 100, of Villisca, was born May 9, 1901, in Adams County, Iowa, the daughter of William Fletcher and Elvia (Eastman) Butman and died Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at the Red Oak Nursing and Rehab Center, in
Red Oak, Iowa.

Edith was united in marriage to John Jackson, son of George Washington Jackson and Agnes Docker Jackson of Montgomery County, Iowa, on February 26, 1921, in Red Oak, Iowa. To this union were born three children: Byron Earl, Ralph Arthur, and Gladys Irene. Her husband, John, preceded her in death in 1964, and their son Byron, died of an accidental drowning August 10, 1945 at Dulag Beach on Leyte Island in the Philippines.

Edith and John farmed northeast of Villisca during their entire married lives. After John's death in 1964 she moved to Villisca. Edith did housekeeping in the Villisca area for many years. She had been a resident in the Good Samaritan Care
Center since December 1998. She entered the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital August 7th and then entered the Red Oak Nursing and Rehab Center in Red Oak.

Edith enjoyed gardening, canning, raising chickens, crocheting, embroidering, and other crafts. She was also involved in the neighborhood Social Hour Club.

She is survived by her son Ralph Jackson of Red Oak, and daughter Gladys Knox and husband Lyle of Clearfield; Seven grandchildren, Rodney Jackson and wife Cindi of Denver, CO, Victor Jackson and wife Trish of Persia, Iowa, Teresa Jervi of
Sacramento, CA, Debra McDonald and husband Dr. Richard of Aledo, TX, Veta Myers and husband Lowell of Springfield, MO, Connie Beck and husband Donald of Lenox, and Stanley Knox and wife Dorothy of Clearfield; 19 great grandchildren
and seven great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Edith is proceeded in death by her parents, husband, son Byron Jackson, daughter-in-law Marilyn, sisters Mabel, Ethel, Bertha, Esther and brothers Justain and Arthur.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 13, 2001 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, with Rev. Tim Maxa officiating. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
