Miller, Bessie Ruth Smith -
Funeral services were held Dec. 26 at the Lenox United Methodist Church for Bessie Ruth Smith Miller, 89, who died Dec. 22 at her home in Lenox.
The Rev. Elmer West officiated and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak. Pallbearers were Howard Stoaks, Darrell Schowalter, Phillip Preston, Wayne O'Riley, Julian Walter and Darrell Reynolds.
Mrs. Miller was born June 12, 1897, at Red Oak, third child of Joseph and Ellen Jane Patterson Smith. She taught school nine years and was married to George Theron Miller April 28, 1925.
She was always ready to help when needed, and enjoyed her involvement in a Bible study club. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lenox, and of United Methodist Women and the Friendly Neighbors Club. She enjoyed canning and yardwork, and made quilts and afghans for her family. She liked to travel, and had made bus and train tours of the United States and Canada. She often visited the Iowa State Fair, and had made trips to Hawaii, Germany, Switzerland and other countries.
She leaves a daughter, Josephine Schomburg of Morton Mills; a son, Benne Miller of Lenox; a sister, Josephine Anderson of Red Oak; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
