Final rites for Robert Arthur Dunn of Nodaway, IA were held Sunday, Nov. 25, 1984 at the United Methodist Church in Nodaway at 2:30 p.m. Reverend Steven Wainwright officiated.
Music was provided by Jim Dunbar, vocalist, and Mrs. Jim Dunbar, organist. Selections were "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and "How Great Thou Art".
Casket bearers were Willis Gourley, Fred Bryson, Jr., Howard Bangston, Harlan Pond, Larry Baker, Clark Devine, Elbert Grimit, and Raymond Spring.
Military graveside rites were conducted by OURCQ, Post 117 of the Corning American Legion.
Interment was in the Arlinton Cemetery near Tinville, 1A.
Sutphen Funeral Home of Villisca was in charge of arrangements.
Bob, the son of Augustus A. and Myrtle Devine Dunn, was born May 3, 1916 in Washington township, Montgomery county, IA. He died at the Red Oak Hospital on Thursday, Nov. 22 at the age of 68 years, six months, and 19 days.
On Sept. 20, 1940, he was united in marriage with Laurena Focht at Carroll, IA.
Bob spent most of his life in the Villisca and Nodaway areas, holding a variety of jobs until failing health forced his retirement in 1971. He served for more than five years with the National Guard and seven months with the United States Army, during World War II. He was a member of the Nodaway Methodist Church, having served on the board, was a past member of the Nodaway City Council and was commander of American Legion Post 646 for nearly 12 years, a position he held at the time of his death.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Grace; and two brothers, Stanley and Darwin.
Survivors include his wife, Laurena; a daughter, Carolyn Sanburn of Lenox; three sons, Bobby, Jr. and wife, Chris of Nodaway, Kent of Shingle Springs, CA and Stanley and wife, Brenda, also of Nodaway; two sisters, Lavaughn Peck and husband, Baldwin of Hiawatha, KS and Willabelle Kallos and husband, Greg of Lee Woods, KS; two brothers, Rolly and wife, Marg of Kearney, NE and Loren of York, NE; a sister-in-law, Betty Dunn of Wathena, KS; grandchildren, Terry Vogel, Tracy and Cody Sanburn, all of Lenox, Rachel and Robbie A. Dunn III and Molly and Sally Dunn, all of Nodaway; several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as a host of friends.
