Meyer, Everett John -
Everett John Meyer, the son of Christ G. and Ida Vandiver Meyer, was born in Lynnville, Indiana on January 2, 1905 and passed away on Tuesday evening, July 12, 1977 at the farm southeast of Corning, Iowa at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 10 days after having a coronary attack.
On April 7, 1926, Everett was united in marriage with Hattie B. Hines at Chandler, Kan. To this union three children were born: Kenneth, Edna and Mary.
Everett and Hattie moved to Grant, Iowa in 1928, and lived in that area for 21 years, they then moved to the Kent and Stringtown areas in 1951. Twenty years later they moved to the area near the Mercer Center Church southeast of Corning where they presently live in their farm home. He has been a farmer all of his life. He was very much devoted to the Christian Way of Life, his church and family.
He was preceded to death by his parents, an infant half-brother, a half sister, Gertrude Ledbetter; a granddaughter, Bonnie Jean Meyer and a grandson-in-law, James Wiley.
Everett is survived by his loving wife Hattie; his son Kenneth and his wife Nola of Red Oak; and their children Dean and Glen Meyer. His daughters: Edna Page of Creston and her children Marcia Johnson, Denise Zimmerson and Connie Page; and Mary Eggleston and her husband Danny of Red Oak; and their children Christina, Russell, Wade and Amy Eggleston. Also surviving are five brothers: Ed Meyer of Evansville, Ind., Ernie Meyer of Chandler, Ind.; Elmer Meyer of Yankestown, Ind.; Ervin Meyer of Mesa, Ariz., and Carl Meyer of Chandler, Ind, and his sister, Edith Ewin of Newburg, Ind.; and a half sister, Zadah Nisbeth of Evansville, Ind. In addition he is survived by three great grandchildren: Brent and Sara Johnson and Jamette Wiley, as well as other relatives and many friends.
He was a member of the Mercer Center United Methodist Church. May God bless his memory and give comfort to those who mourn.
Funeral services were held Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home with Rev. Floyd Newbrough officiating.
Casket bearers were Loyal English, Lawrence Peterson, Harold Clark, Wayne Bunting, Lloyd Duncan and Harold Riley.
Interment was in Grant cemetery.
