Death of E. I. Ogden

Edmund I. Ogden, a respected resident of this county since 1872, died at his home in Frankfort township Monday night, June 14, from kidney trouble. He was confined to his bed six weeks. A trained nurse assisted the family in caring for him. Mr. Ogden was in his 75th year. He was born in Yorkshire, England, in December 1835. He came to the United States in 1872, stopping in St. Louis five weeks and then coming to Red Oak. He bought 80 acres of land 2 1/2 miles northeast of Red Oak at $13 an acre and six months afterward sold 40 acres of it at the same price for lack of funds, buying the land back a few years afterward at $20 an acre.

He leaves an estate worth $75,000 or more, including 640 acres of fine land. Mrs. Ogden died in December, 1907. There are five sons, Henry, Thomas, John, Archibald and William, and two daughters, Mrs. Isabelle Waldorff and Miss Eliza Ogden.
