MARTIN HERBERT DEAD
He Had Been a Resident of Red Oak
for Nearly 40 Years -- Long Time
"Q" Employe.

Martin Herbert, for nearly 40 years a resident of Red Oak, and a long time employe of the C., B. & Q railroad, died at his home, 200 Oakwood ave., at 12:30 o'clock Wednesday noon, from paralysis, after illness of about two weeks.

The funeral was held yesterday [Thursday] afternoon, Rev. Father Ostdeik, of St. Mary's Catholice church, conducting the services. The pallbearers were Thos. Lumb, James McCoy, Will Farrell, John O'Rourke, Henry Geoffroy and Emery Taylor. The remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery.

Martin Herbert was born Dec. 22, 1847, at Lachene, Canada, and was married in October 1872, at St. Albany, Vt., to Miss Agnes Hughes, who survives. He is survived also by the following children: Mrs. A. A. Sheehey, of Creston; Sister Damion, of St. Joseph's Convent, Ottumwa; J. F. Herbert, of Casper, Wyo.; Minnie and James Herbert, of Red Oak; Mike, of St. Joseph, Mo.; Mrs. J. C. Sweeney, of Imogene; Leo Herbert, of Omaha.

Deceased was a faithful member of the Catholic church. He moved from Canada to Waterbury, Vt. and later to Monmouth, Ill., but came to Red Oak in 1880 and has lived here ever since. He was a bridge carpenter for the Burlington for 40 years. He was highly respected and many friends extend sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.
